Conor McGregor is set to make his long-awaited return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on July 11 in Las Vegas, where he will face off against Max Holloway in a welterweight bout at UFC 329.
This will be McGregor's first appearance in the octagon since he broke his leg during a fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021. The Irish fighter, now 37 years old, has been embroiled in legal troubles over the past several years, including a civil sexual assault case that was upheld by Ireland's High Court last year.
The upcoming bout is a rematch of their 2013 featherweight fight, which McGregor won by points. McGregor's last appearance was originally slated for a fight against Michael Chandler in July 2024 but was canceled due to a toe injury. McGregor had previously burst onto the MMA scene in 2013 and became the first UFC fighter to hold two championship belts in 2016 with a win over Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title and a knockout of Jose Aldo for the featherweight title in 2015.
In 2017, McGregor took a two-year break from the UFC to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match. Since his return, he has lost three of his last four fights.
Can McGregor's comeback to the octagon finally bring some peace to his tumultuous career? Or will the legal troubles overshadow his return to the ring? Let's hope he can focus on the fight and leave the drama outside the cage!
