After a five-year hiatus, numerous speculations, cancelled comebacks, and injuries, one of the biggest stars in the history of mixed martial arts is finally making a return. The UFC has officially confirmed what fans around the world have been eagerly awaiting: Conor McGregor will be re-entering the octagon.

UFC president Dana White announced that the Irish fighter will headline UFC 329 on July 11 in Las Vegas, facing his old rival, former featherweight champion Max Holloway. The bout, which will take place in the welterweight division, will be the centerpiece of the International Fight Week at the T-Mobile Arena, marking McGregor’s return exactly five years after his last appearance.

A Long and Thorny Path Back

The last time McGregor stepped into the octagon was in August 2021, when he suffered a devastating broken leg in his third fight against Dustin Poirier, threatening to end his career. Following years of recovery, rehabilitation, and uncertainty, his return was planned for May 2024 against Michael Chandler, but just a few weeks before the fight, McGregor had to withdraw due to a broken toe. In the meantime, McGregor has remained active, training and preparing for his comeback.
