Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Viñales will return to MotoGP action this weekend at the Catalunya Grand Prix in Barcelona, according to the team's announcement.

Viñales missed the entire "Jerez" and Le Mans rounds last season after undergoing shoulder surgery following a shoulder injury sustained during the summer. The surgery was performed at the beginning of April, after the Spanish rider withdrew from the US Grand Prix following the first free practice session in Austin.

Despite Viñales' return, not all MotoGP champions will be present at this year's Catalunya Grand Prix. The world champion is still recovering from an injury sustained at Le Mans last week and Ducati has decided not to replace him. As a result, 21 out of 22 champions, plus Yamaha's test rider, Augusto Fernández, will participate in the race, with Fernández starting with a "wild card" for the second time this year.
