Igor Matanović, the Croatian striker for Freiburg, spoke ahead of the Europa League final against Aston Villa in Istanbul. Matanović, who has scored 15 goals this season and has been called up for the World Cup squad, highlighted the team's determination to play with high intensity from the start.

"We are at least the second-best team in the Europa League, but we want to be the best. We are extremely proud and happy, but of course, we want to win the title in the final. We aim to play with very high intensity from the start, turning the match into a 'home game.' This will transfer to the stands and the opposing team, making them realize quickly that we are a tough opponent. If we succeed in this, we have good chances of winning," Matanović said.

He added, "We don't want to give Aston Villa any room to breathe and want to play at the highest level. Of course, Aston Villa is a strong opponent, but if we don't allow them to get into their rhythm, it will be difficult for them."

Freiburg's team is valued at around 191 million euros, while Aston Villa, under Unai Emery, is valued at over 500 million euros. Villa has had a stellar season, finishing fourth in the Premier League. Ollie Watkins leads the Villa attack and is in excellent form, having scored two goals in the previous match against Liverpool.

"Of course, on paper, we are underdogs. The difference is huge. But we must not forget where we came from, where we were at the beginning of the season, and the progress we have made. When we play with our fans behind us, who give us so much energy every time, we are almost unbeatable," Matanović concluded.
