A massive stadium with a capacity of 135,000 is under construction in Vietnam, set to be the world’s largest upon completion. According to reports in the Vietnamese press, initial construction work has begun on the project. Authorities aim to complete the massive sports complex, which includes the Trong Dong Stadium, by 2030. The stadium is expected to cost approximately $1.19 billion and will be at the heart of the massive $35-38 billion Hanoi Olympic Sports City project.

Designed not only for football matches, the stadium will also host concerts, international organizations, and large events. One of the most striking features of the project is its capacity of around 135,000, which would place Trong Dong Stadium among the world’s largest football stadiums.

INSPIRED BY DONG SON DRUM

The Trong Dong Stadium is designed to feature one of the world’s largest retractable roof systems. The architectural design takes inspiration from the Dong Son bronze drum, a historical symbol of Vietnam representing strength, unity, and continuity. Project officials highlight their goal of combining traditional Vietnamese culture with modern architectural understanding.
