Marcel Popescu Celebrates as Universitatea Craiova Claims Romanian Title

Universitatea Craiova has reclaimed the Romanian title after a 35-year hiatus, defeating Universitatea Cluj 5-0 in the final match of the season. Over 27,000 supporters filled the "Ion Oblemenco" stadium, creating an electrifying atmosphere in the city of Baia. The team, led by coach Coelho, dominated the game from the start.

David Matei opened the scoring in the third minute with a spectacular shot, followed by Al-Hamlawi's second goal just a few minutes later. In the second half, the team continued its performance with additional goals from Al-Hamlawi, Mekvabishvili, and Basceanu.

A day after the victory, Marcel Popescu, the architect of the last champion team from Baia, spoke about the performance of the team. "What more can be said? Nothing! A season ended en-fanfare, with Craiova becoming champions in a stadium rarely seen in Romania. The game was at European cup level."

Popescu also highlighted the international support the team received, noting that a fan from Guadeloupe traveled over 9,000 kilometers to witness the match. "This victory and the championship title will launch a significant project with enormous chances of success, particularly the entry into the Champions League, which would be fantastic."

Fan Travels from Guadeloupe to See the Match!

Among the fans who traveled to witness the historic moment was Ionut Vulpe, a Romanian living in Guadeloupe. He made the journey from Guadeloupe to Martinique, then to Paris, Bucharest, and finally to Craiova, a trip of approximately 9,000 kilometers and 32 hours, to be present for the match that brought the title to Baia.
