Harry Maguire and Fikayo Tomori are among the central defensive options to be left out of England's World Cup squad.

Both players were included in Thomas Tuchel’s previous squad for the friendlies against Japan and Uruguay but will not be making the trip to North America. In an Instagram post, Maguire confirmed his disappointment: "I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I've had. I've been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I wish the players all the best."

Shaw's Exclusion

Maguire's Manchester United teammate Luke Shaw is also expected to miss out despite his impressive season. Shaw was included in Tuchel’s 55-man provisional squad, with many calling for his inclusion. However, with Newcastle’s Dan Burn and Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly set to be called up, Shaw is likely to be left out.

Arsenal's Representation

Arsenal winger Noni Madueke is expected to make the final 26-man squad, joining team-mates Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice. Tuchel is set to announce the final squad on Friday for the World Cup, which starts on 11 June.

England will warm up for the tournament, taking place across the US, Mexico, and Canada, with friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica. They will begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia on 17 June, followed by games against Ghana and Panama.
