Central defender Harry Maguire, 33, has expressed his shock and devastation after being left out of England's World Cup squad by manager Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel is set to officially announce the 26-man squad on Friday for the tournament to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Maguire Left Out of England's World Cup Squad
The German coach has already begun informing players who will not be traveling to the World Cup, including Manchester United's central defender Harry Maguire. Tuchel's decision comes despite Maguire's strong performance in the second half of the season under interim manager Michael Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim in January.
Maguire wrote on social media: "I believed I could play a significant role for my country this summer, after the season I had. The decision has left me shocked and completely devastated. I wish all the players the best of luck." The 33-year-old has played in two World Cups for England, in 2018 and 2022, and was a key player in the 2021 European Championship, which ended with a loss in the final to Italy. He missed the 2024 European Championship due to an injury.
With 66 caps for England, including one in March this year, Maguire has been a consistent presence for the national team over the years. His omission from the squad is a blow to both the player and the fans who expected him to represent England once again.
n-am văzut asta venind... Maguire a avut un sezon solid, îmi pare rău pentru el.
