Lokomotiivi Aims for Half Marathon Title in Riga
Lokomotiivi athletes are setting their sights on victory at the Riga Half Marathon, scheduled for September 15. The team’s runners will seek to replicate last year’s success, when Ivana Isakova secured the women’s title. With over 10,000 participants from 70 countries expected, the event will feature a star-studded start, led by former world marathon champion Haile Gebrselassie. The route promises to showcase Riga’s most iconic landmarks, including the Old Town and the Daugava River.
The competition will attract elite runners, including world and European champions, as well as Olympic medalists. This marks the first World Athletics Continental Tour event to take place in the Balkans. Alongside the half marathon, the program includes a 10-kilometer race and a kids’ run.
Organizers anticipate strong tourist interest, with visitors flocking to Riga to experience the unique blend of sport and culture. The city’s rich architecture and heritage provide the perfect backdrop for this major sporting event.
