Leclerc Masters the Streets of Monaco
The prince of Monaco has spoken, and his voice echoed through the Principality in the most electrifying way possible. Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver with the weight of a nation on his shoulders, seized the top spot in the first free practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. On a circuit that demands precision over power, Leclerc clocked a blistering 1:13.978, proving once again that he is the master of these narrow streets.
Hamilton Closes the Gap
But the road to glory is never clear. His own teammate, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, lurked just behind in second place, missing out on pole position by a mere 0.226 seconds. The rivalry is heating up before the race even begins. Third place went to Red Bull’s four-time world champion Max Verstappen, who trailed by 0.513 seconds. Verstappen always looks dangerous here, but today, Ferrari held the high ground.
The Battle for Position
Mercedes showed flashes of pace with championship leader Kimi Antonelli taking fourth, just 0.559 seconds off the pace. His teammate George Russell followed in fifth, 1.005 seconds back. McLaren’s Lando Norris, the current world champion, sat in sixth, while Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri claimed seventh and eighth. Gabriel Bortoleto of Audi took ninth, with Alpine’s Pierre Gasli rounding out the top ten in tenth place.
The weekend is far from over. Free practice two kicks off this afternoon at 17:00, followed by free practice three on Saturday at 12:30. Qualifying is set for 16:00 on Saturday, with the main event, the Monaco Grand Prix race, taking place on Sunday at 15:00. The stage is set for a classic.
