Svilengrad Mayor on Landslide: State Reacts After the Fact, No Preventive Measures

Mayor of Svilengrad, Nikolay Melmov, expressed concerns over the recent landslide near Raikovski Meadow, which has disrupted the Pamporovo – Svilengrad road. He highlighted the lack of preventive measures, stating that the government only takes action after incidents occur.

Melmov shared his thoughts with BNT, noting that a similar landslide could have occurred 20 years ago, about 30 meters upstream. "The state fortifies after something happens, but there are no preventive measures," he emphasized. The landslide, which covers an area of approximately 5 decares, has raised concerns about the lack of proactive measures to prevent such disasters.

The incident near Raikovski Meadow has not only caused environmental concerns but has also disrupted local traffic and tourism in the region. This highlights the need for more robust preventive and preparatory measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters in the future.
