Julia Stamatova Kicks Off With Impressive Victory at Kurshumlijska Banya
Bulgarian tennis player Julia Stamatova secured a convincing win in the singles round of the Kurshumlijska Banya clay court tournament, advancing to the second round. The tournament, held in Serbia, boasts a prize fund of $15,000.
The 32-year-old Stamatova defeated Mariana Isabell Igita Barasa of Colombia with scores of 6-2, 6-2. The match lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
Stamatova started the match with a break, which was immediately returned by the Colombian player. However, after the scores were even at 2-2, Stamatova won four consecutive games. In the second set, Barasa took an early lead with 2-0, but Stamatova did not allow her any more games until the end of the match.
In the second round, Stamatova will face the winner of the match between Letisia Pulhartova (Czech Republic) and the third seed, Tien Chia-Ling (China).
Later today, in the doubles pre-qualifying round, Bulgarian Melis Rasim and Serbian Andreja Obradovic, the fourth seeds, will face Anastasia Lizunova (Russia) and Sonja Jenihova (Germany). Meanwhile, Alexandra Mateva and Mariyana Shikhanova (Russia) will play against Czech players Michala Bayerlova and Letisia Pulhartova.
