Real Madrid has rekindled its relationship with former coach Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese tactician expected to sign a two-year contract with the Spanish giants this week.

TWO-YEAR CONTRACT

Mourinho, who last coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, will return to the club after a 13-year hiatus. He will finalize his move following the upcoming match between Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, where he is expected to arrive in Spain.

BOARD ELECTIONS TO FOLLOW

The club is also preparing for an imminent board election, with incumbent president Florentino Perez running for re-election. If Enrique Riquelme, the other candidate, does not participate, Mourinho's official announcement is expected to be made on Monday or Tuesday of next week. However, if Riquelme runs and the election proceeds, the process could be delayed by up to two weeks.

CLAUSE IN BENFICA CONTRACT

Mourinho's return is facilitated by a unique clause in his contract with Benfica, which allows him and the club to terminate the agreement within 10 days after the final match of the 2025-26 season.
