Olympiacos secured a spot in the Final Four of the EuroLeague after defeating defending champions Fenerbahce in Athens with a score of 79:61. In a post-game press conference, Fenerbahce coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius gave his thoughts on the game.
Post-Game Analysis
"Congratulations to Yorgos and Olympiacos. They were clearly the better team today. This was our worst game of the season. It's painful to see us struggle like this; the scores at the beginning of the quarters were brutal. We know how important it is to start strong, but we've been knocked out. Every time we tried to come back, we immediately handed the momentum back to them. Every time we showed life, they took it away from us. This wasn't a good night for us, and it was on the biggest stage."
Jasikevičius continued:
"Every time you come into a game like this and start shooting threes, it's not good. That's not our game. Olympiacos was Olympiacos, and we couldn't take them out of their rhythm. Although we were mostly good defensively, we were criminal offensively. They played well, but we played poorly."
Specific Performance Issues
"I'm not sure. We weren't us, we started shooting threes. It's okay if they're good shots, but they weren't. Unfortunately, you can't play like this against Olympiacos. We shot 8 out of 36 from beyond the arc."
"I'm not sure. We'll look at the stats and see where we went wrong. They played their basketball, but we were below our level. We need to understand the reasons."
Jasikevičius also commented on Nando de Colo:
"I have nothing more to say. One of the best in history, we could talk about him for hours. Look at the last game, the only player in the plus category in the +/- stats."
He concluded with a critique of the organizers:
"People, I can only read about this on social media. They can't win the game. I read that many people bought tickets but couldn't enter the arena. If this is the case, it's very bad for the EuroLeague and its organization, I'm sorry for those people. I was in a restaurant last night around 23:00, and people were coming to me asking when they would get their tickets. It's a sad situation."
