Jaqueline Cristian (27 years old, WTA ranking: 33) is on the verge of winning her first title in the WTA circuit. After winning a 125k-level tournament in Puerto Vallarta in 2025, the Romanian player is now facing her toughest challenge in the semifinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Strasbourg, France.
Her opponent will be the Canadian Victoria Mboko, a 19-year-old who currently holds the ninth position in the world ranking.
Jaqueline Cristian Plays for Nearly €100,000 in Strasbourg Semifinal
Victoria Mboko, the winner of the Canadian Open, will face Jaqueline Cristian for the first time. Both players are known for their powerful and offensive style of tennis, promising an exciting match in the second semifinal scheduled for Friday, May 22, in Strasbourg.
The day of tennis in Strasbourg will start at 15:30 with a match between American players Ann Li (WTA ranking: 30) and Emma Navarro (WTA ranking: 39), followed by the match between Victoria Mboko and Jaqueline Cristian, set for after 17:30.
The financial prize for the duel between Mboko and Cristian is just shy of €100,000. Both players have guaranteed a cheque worth €119,030 by reaching the semifinals, but the winner will receive significantly more, €223,350.
A win also means a better chance at the major prize, estimated at €415,140.
