At the Rome Masters 1000 tennis tournament, Jannik Sinner claimed the title by defeating world number one Casper Ruud with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the final. This marks Sinner's sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title, following wins in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid.
The 24-year-old Sinner is only the second player in history to achieve the "Golden Masters," winning the championship trophy in all nine ATP 1000 tournaments. Novak Djokovic was the first to accomplish this feat.
Sinner started behind in the final match, trailing 0-2, but managed to turn the game around, securing a 6-4 win after a decisive break in the ninth game. The match lasted one hour and 44 minutes.
Ruud, ranked 25th in the world, lost the serve in the first game of the second set and could not reclaim it, leading to his defeat. Sinner made 15 unforced errors compared to Ruud's 23.
This victory marks Sinner's fifth consecutive win over Ruud, and his overall record in 2026 stands at 36-2. Sinner has an impressive streak of 34 consecutive wins in Masters 1000 tournaments.
This is a historic win for Sinner, but can he keep up this incredible streak in the upcoming French Open? I’m eager to see how he performs on clay in Paris!
