Italian Jannik Sinner has broken a half-century of waiting for an Italian winner at the Rome Masters with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Norwegian Casper Ruud. Sinner is the second player in history, after Novak Djokovic, to win at least one title across all nine current Masters 1000 tournaments. This win marks Sinner's fifth victory over Ruud in their five matches, extending his record-setting streak to 34 matches on the Masters 1000 level.

Ruud started strong, taking a 2-0 lead and capitalizing on Sinner's initial nerves. However, Sinner quickly adjusted, breaking Ruud's serve to even the score and then breaking again to secure a 5-3 lead, winning the first set. In the second set, Sinner again took an early 2-0 lead. Ruud had one chance to come back in the eighth game, but Sinner easily squelched it. Serving for the historical achievement, Sinner wrapped it up with his signature precision, leaving Ruud scoreless.

Sinner's dominance on the court sparked a wave of celebration on the central Foro Italico court, with former Italian champion Adriano Panatta among those applauding. At 24, Sinner became the youngest player to win all nine Masters 1000 tournaments, also setting a new record for six consecutive victories at this level since last year's Shanghai tournament. Meanwhile, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori secured Italy's first doubles title in the Open era by defeating Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the final.
