Sergey Jakirović is just a step away from paradise. His Hull City is just one game away from entering the Premier League. The final of all finals, the most expensive match in the world, will take place at Wembley. The opponent is supposed to be Southampton, but after a spying scandal, it’s not entirely certain. The final for promotion to the Premier League is currently scheduled for May 23 at 5 PM, and in the coming days, it will be known what will happen with Southampton. In anticipation of the spectacle, Jakirović addressed his fans.
"Dear Tigers,
even though the circumstances around the final are strange, I want to say a few words to you. I know I joined this club quietly, without much fanfare, just as I have done many times in life. But this season, starting from our first visit to Coventry, we have all been living our shared dream. They wrote us off and underestimated us, but we never lost the spirit that brought us to this great final.
Whatever happens during those 90 or 120 minutes of struggle on Wembley, I want us to breathe as one, just as we have done throughout this incredible season! And then, let it be what it will be. Que sera, sera," he wrote on Instagram.
The strange circumstances Jakirović mentioned are the situation with Southampton. As a reminder, Middlesbrough accused Southampton of sending an analyst to spy on their training. The spy reportedly parked near a golf club, walked a few hundred meters to the top of a small hill, which offers a perfect, unobstructed view of the training grounds. Middlesbrough’s staff spotted him and approached, and he started running. However, he was caught on camera, and the case was reported.
Southampton was given a two-match suspension for Middlesbrough, but it remains to be seen if they will be in the final. Hull City secured their place by defeating Millwall in a spectacular away game, where the "tigers" celebrated a 2-0 win.
Jakirović's words are a reminder that sometimes the most unlikely teams can achieve the impossible. But what if Southampton doesn't make it to the final? Could that change Hull's fate?
