Ivica Tucak, a former captain of the Croatian water polo team, spoke about his time playing for Beograd's Red Star in the late 1980s and early 1990s. When asked about his memories of Beograd, Tucak responded:
"I have fond memories. I've said it a million times: Beograd is a city I'm always happy to return to, where I have a million dear and close friends. I feel good and happy there. All my friends from Beograd, whenever they can, are my guests in Šibenik. We go out on a boat, have some fish, and that's something that no one can take away from us."
"My homeland, as I've said a million times, is the one I love the most in the world. I am Croatian and proud of that fact, but I will never allow myself to hate someone just because they are Serbian. Never in my life. To me, a friend is a friend, a person is a person, and nationality is something else."
Tucak to Retire After the 2028 Olympics
Tucak became widely recognized for leading the Croatian water polo team. He took over in 2012, succeeding the legendary Ratko Rudić. Over 14 years, he led the team to two world championships, a silver medal, and two bronze medals, an Olympic silver, and one European gold and silver. He has announced that the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will be his last competition for the Croatian team.
