Hungarian Swimming Legend Laszlo Cseh Inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame

Hungarian swimming legend Laszlo Cseh was officially inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. The news of his inclusion among the 11 honorees for the year was announced by the institution in January.

The 40-year-old retired from competitive swimming in 2021, leaving behind a remarkable career. Cseh is the holder of four silver and two bronze Olympic medals, a world and European champion, and has set five world records in combined swimming. The International Swimming Hall of Fame highlights that in international competitions, Cseh has won a total of 74 medals – 38 gold, 19 silver, and 17 bronze.

The induction ceremony took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In a social media post, Cseh described his induction as “a tremendous honor.” He shared a portion of his speech during the event, where he addressed his former competitors.

“Lastly, but not least, I want to extend special thanks to my competitors – Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Chad le Clos, Marcus Rogan, and Luca Marin, as well as all my Hungarian competitors. It may sound unusual, but the truth is, you were my biggest motivation. Every time I stood on the starting block and looked at the lanes in front of me, I knew I could not afford a mistake,” he said.

“You illuminated my weak spots, showed me where I needed to improve, and with your exceptional achievements, you pushed me every day to surpass myself. Our shared competitions transformed me into the athlete I am today,” Cseh added.
