Believers Flock to Belgrade's Resurrection Church
A significant religious event has been unfolding in the heart of Belgrade, where thousands of believers have gathered to pay their respects to the Belt of the Mother of God, a revered Orthodox Christian relic. The Belt arrived in Belgrade yesterday and will be on display at the Resurrection Church until 7 PM today. Afterward, the relic will be transferred to St. Sava Church following a traditional procession known as the "Spasovdan litija."
According to tradition, the procession will follow a well-known route through the city, starting from the Resurrection Church via Kneza Miloša Street, Kralja Milana Street, around Slavija Circle, and along Oslobodjenje Boulevard to the St. Sava Church. This path has been carefully chosen to ensure that the largest number of believers can participate in the event.
Traffic Disruptions and Full Road Closures
The procession and the display of the relic at the Resurrection Church have caused significant traffic disruptions in the area. Certain streets will be completely closed to traffic from 4 PM to 7 PM, including Admiral Geprata Street and Dobrinjska Street. Public transportation will also be affected, with specific bus lines being suspended or rerouted from 6 PM until 7:45 PM.
The event is expected to continue for the next eight days, from May 21 to May 29, allowing believers to visit the Resurrection Church daily to pay their respects to the holy relic. This is a momentous occasion for the Orthodox community, as it is the first time in nearly 650 years that the Belt of the Mother of God has been brought to Belgrade.
The return of the Belt of the Mother of God to Belgrade after centuries is a momentous occasion, but it's a testament to the enduring power of faith. How do you think this event will impact the city and its residents beyond the religious significance?
