Hajduk wrapped up the SuperSport HNL season with a convincing 6-3 victory over Vukovar 1991 in their final, 36th match of the season. The match, played at Poljud, saw two goals from Michele Šego, while Roko Brajković, 17-year-old Adam Huram, and Iker Almena each scored once. For Vukovar, Jakov Gurlica and Jakov Puljić found the back of the net, while Lovro Banovec scored both a goal and an own goal.
Messages from the Stands
The match began with a message displayed by Torcida on the northern stand: "Welcome to the country where a whistle call brings a month of investigation, and murder brings a new chance at life." While the message was not officially explained, it is believed to refer to the recent tragedy in Drniš.
Recall that 50-year-old Kristijan Aleksić was accused of shooting a 19-year-old pizza delivery man with a flare gun late Saturday evening. After the crime, Aleksić fled the scene and was intensively searched for 24 to 28 hours before being apprehended near the site of the crime. Media highlighted that Aleksić has been convicted multiple times, including for murder in the early 1990s.
A Farewell to Julienne Bušić
Torcida also displayed another message during the match, dedicated to the recently deceased Julienne Bušić (78), the widow of Zvonko Bušić. Zvonko Bušić was a Croatian nationalist who, in 1976, along with Julienne, was involved in the hijacking of a passenger plane and the placement of an explosive device that killed New York police officer Brian Murray.
Emotional End to the Season at Poljud
Following the final whistle, the scenes at the stadium were particularly poignant. Although the season was turbulent, fans presented players with memorable send-offs. Torcida moved to the northwest part of the stands and continued to loudly cheer, while players gathered in the center of the pitch, with some returning after having already headed to the changing rooms.
The players first greeted the public on the eastern stand, then approached Torcida, leading to a loud rendition of "When you're first at the end of the season, the city celebrates the champions...". In a very emotional atmosphere, the first-place finishers were ultimately sent off the field with a huge applause.
fenerbahce were miles better this season tbh, but i'm still not sure they can keep it up...
