The Greek women’s boxing team has departed for Belgrade, Serbia, to participate in the prestigious international tournament, the 63rd Belgrade Winner 2026.
The event, which takes place in Belgrade, is considered one of the key international tests of the year for boxers. It focuses on the Elite category and attracts participants from numerous countries. The Greek delegation is accompanied by national coaches Vangelis Papoutsakis and Andreas Giannakopoulos.
The team comprises eight female boxers: Athina Abramidou at 48 kg, Reni Gianeva at 51 kg, Maria Vergetaki at 54 kg, Areti Stergiou and Panagioti Kouzilou at 57 kg, Despina Makri at 65 kg, Elizabeth Konstantinidou at 70 kg, and Vasiliki Stavridou at 80 kg.
For Greek boxing, the tournament holds significant importance. The matches provide valuable experience against high-level opponents and help the national team gauge its progress in an international setting.
The tournament, scheduled for May, includes categories for women from 48 kg to over 80 kg. This means Greece will have a presence in multiple weight classes, showcasing the depth of its boxing talent.
The team's goal is to make strong showings and, when the opportunity arises, compete for medals. However, the primary objective is for the boxers to enter the ring prepared and focused, demonstrating the competitive spirit of Greek women’s boxing.
This tournament is a big deal for Greek women's boxing. With so many talented fighters across multiple weight classes, I can't wait to see how they perform on the international stage. Will they bring home some hardware? Let's go Greece!
