The Greek shot put has once again demonstrated its dominance in developmental categories, with three athletes throwing over 70 meters at the Agios Kosmas event. The performances of Sotiris Gentekos, Petros Kassavitas, and Andreas Apostolakos have garnered international attention and highlighted the depth of the Greek school in shot put.
A competition at Agios Kosmas turned into a showcase of power for Greek shot put. In his first year in the K20 category, Sotiris Gentekos achieved an incredible personal best of 75.01 meters, recording the top performance in the world for 2026 with a 6 kg shot. The 17-year-old Petros Kassavitas also delivered an impressive performance, throwing 70.98 meters and climbing to the second position of all time in the K18 category. The young athlete showed an improvement of over eleven meters compared to last year and is already considered one of the greatest talents in Europe.
A few tenths behind was the 17-year-old Andreas Apostolakos with 70.85 meters, a performance that ranks as the 4th best of all time in Greek K18. The Greek shot put now appears to have a steady production of international-level athletes, backed by the major summer events in Rieti and Oregano.
