Miltos Tentogloy launches his summer season in Argostoli, with the Vergotia 2026 event on Saturday, May 16, bringing together prominent figures from the Greek athletics scene.
The event takes place at the renovated Dak Argostoli "Andreas Vergotis" stadium, with the men's long jump serving as a key highlight. Tentogloy returns to this venue, where he achieved a jump of 8.36 meters in 2022, a performance that remains associated with the organization.
For the two-time Olympic champion, the competition in Kefalonia marks his first significant test within national borders before he heads to major events of the year. Following the Diamond League in Siamesh on May 23, Argostoli acts as an early serious trial to gauge his rhythm.
Not Just Tentogloy in the Lineup
The event boasts depth across other competitions. In the women's high jump, Panagiota Dosy continues her comeback after a winter injury, just days after reaching 1.80 meters at the District Championships. Joining her is Maria Voukobitis from Mavrovouni.
In sprints, Rafaela Spanoudaki aims to step up her intensity after more conservative performances at the District Championships. Alongside her, Apostolia Antonatou returns to Kefalonia with momentum from her Panhellenic record in the K18 100 meters, achieving 11.65 seconds in school games.
Among the men, Basilis Myrianthopoulos opens his season following a bout with gastroenteritis, while the presence of American Grabon Gilles adds international weight to the fast races. In the men's high jump, Charalampos Alivizatos makes his first outdoor leaps, already showing quality with a 2.25-meter jump in the winter, with sights set on the 2020 World Championship.
In the women's long jump, Maria Stefanopoulou, Evelyn Metropoulou, Niki Poirazidou, and Spyridoula Karidi vie for the top spot, while Anastasia Dragomirova competes in both long jump and high jump.
The Vergotia event is more than a local competition with a big name on the poster; it's the first serious meeting of Greek athletes within the country, providing timing, jumps, and answers about the condition of several athletes.
Miltos Tentogloy's comeback to Argostoli is a big deal, but the whole Vergotia event is loaded with talented Greeks ready to show their stuff. Who do you think will steal the show this year?
