Greek cheeses have earned major international recognition after Graviera Naxou was ranked the best hard cheese in the world by TasteAtlas in its May 2026 rankings. The prestigious list of the world’s 50 best hard cheeses featured an impressive Greek presence, with several traditional Greek varieties securing top positions among globally renowned cheeses from Italy, France, Switzerland, and Spain.

According to the rankings, Graviera Naxou shared the top spot with Italy’s Parmigiano Reggiano, both receiving a rating of 4.6 out of 5. Another Greek favorite, Graviera Kritis, ranked third globally with a score of 4.5.

Additional Greek cheeses featured prominently on the list included Kefalograviera in fifth place, Metsovone in sixth place, San Michali in 11th place, Ladotyri Mytilinis in 14th place, Graviera Agrafon in 16th place, and Kefalotyri in 21st place.

The rankings highlighted Greece’s growing reputation for premium dairy products and traditional cheesemaking, with Greek varieties competing against internationally famous cheeses such as Gruyère, Comté, and Pecorino Romano. TasteAtlas rankings are based on audience ratings and reviews from food enthusiasts around the world.
