American Cori Goof and Russian Mira Andreeva will face off in the quarterfinals of the clay-court tournament in Rome, part of the WTA 1000 series with a prize money of $8,312,293.

Ranked third and a former finalist, Goof saved a match point in the second set and defeated her compatriot Iva Jovic with scores of 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 over two hours and 45 minutes. Jovic, 18 and ranked 16th, overcame a break deficit to win the first set 7-5. She again lost her serve early in the second set but then led 5-3, serving for the biggest win of her career. However, Goof refused to give in, saved a match point, and won four consecutive games to level the match. In the third set, after exchanging two breaks, Goof took control, winning the last four games for the victory.

This result marked Goof's tenth three-set victory in WTA events this year, tying her with Andreeva and Jessica Pegula for the most this season.

Eighth-ranked Andreeva recorded her 50th win in WTA 1000 events, defeating Elise Mertens (Belgium) with scores of 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 18 minutes. This brought her to the quarterfinals in Rome for the second consecutive year.

Goof holds a 4-0 record against 19-year-old Andreeva in quarterfinal matches, three of which are on clay courts.

Three-time champion and fourth-ranked Iga Swiatek (Poland) had no trouble defeating Naomi Osaka (Japan), winning with scores of 6-2, 6-1 in 82 minutes.

Ostapenko's next opponent will be Russian Sorana Kryszta, who eliminated top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) two days ago. Kryszta defeated Linda Nosková (Czech Republic) with scores of 6-2, 6-4.

The 2023 champion and second-ranked Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) recorded an easy win over Karolína Plíšková (Czech Republic) with scores of 6-0, 6-2 in one hour.
