Romanian goalkeeper Horațiu Moldovan (28), who was loaned by Atletico Madrid to Real Oviedo, is considering offers from Saudi Arabia. He has played only 120 minutes in the Copa del Rey, and his loan period with the team that has already been relegated from La Liga is coming to an end. With a less promising future in Madrid, where he still has a contract until next summer, the goalkeeper is considering leaving, according to Iberian press reports.
Journalists from AS have highlighted past offers from the Arab region and noted that he has received new proposals from there. He has not played in an official match for Atletico Madrid. The Spanish media point out that the former Rapid goalkeeper will "once again consider offers" from the region.
Horațiu Moldovan's market value stands at 2 million euros according to Transfermarkt. The former Giulești player was transferred to Atletico Madrid in winter 2024. At that time, the "Colchoneros" paid 800,000 euros to Rapid. After half a year of inactivity, Moldovan was sent to Sassuolo, where he played over 25 games. He returned to Madrid in 2025 but for only one month, followed by another loan to Real Oviedo.
The move to Atletico Madrid did not bode well for the Romanian, who is now looking to gain more playing time with another team. When Horațiu Moldovan moved to Italy, former Rapid offensive player Ovidiu Herea (41) criticized the move. The current sports analyst opined that it was a significant "step back."
“He needed to play, to defend, because he was easily slipping out of the national team. But going from Atletico to Serie B is a big step back,” Ovidiu Herea told Orange Sport.
This winter, Portuguese clubs Arouca and Gil Vicente showed interest in Horațiu Moldovan, but no transfer was made. Additionally, a Polish club had him in their sights at the time.
This is just a reminder that sometimes big moves don’t pan out. Is Moldovan's career in Europe over, or will he bounce back? Let’s see what the future holds!
