Universitatea Craiova, the new Romanian champions after a 35-year hiatus, is preparing to return to the UEFA Champions League after a long absence. In the last two seasons, FCSB has represented the country in Europe's top club competition, failing to advance past the group stage. However, Gigi Becali, FCSB's owner, had a surprising reaction when asked about Uni Craiova's prospects in the Champions League.

Romania hasn't had a representative in the Champions League group stage since 2013, when FCSB, led by Laurențiu Reghecampf, eliminated Legia Warsaw in the playoff round. Despite FCSB's unsuccessful attempts to qualify in recent years, Becali remains confident that his team is the only one from Romania that can compete at the highest level.

Becali is convinced that Uni Craiova has no chance of making it to the Champions League, and he even doubts their ability to reach the Europa League. He attributes this to the club's low UEFA coefficient.

"They won't even touch the Europa League. They don't have such a high coefficient. Only Gigi Becali has permission there! No other Romanian team, only Gigi Becali," Becali declared to Digi Sport.

Immediately after FCSB's recent loss to Hermannstadt in Sibiu, Becali announced he is ready to revolutionize his team, expressing extreme disappointment with the players. "Five to six players will leave, and five to six will come. Many are worthless. I've put my faith in them, they helped us win the league, I won't name them, and now I can't rely on them at all."

He plans to focus on foreign players, emphasizing his belief that only with significant investment can FCSB succeed. "We've never taken free agents. Only if they have problems, or are injured..." Becali stated to PrimaSport.
