Gica Hagi, 61, the newly appointed coach of the Romanian national team, has made a significant announcement just ahead of the team's upcoming friendly matches against Georgia and Wales. Hagi outlined his plans for the two friendly games and revealed how he will structure the team for the upcoming matches.

In early June, Romania will play two friendly matches, marking the first games under Hagi's new mandate. The first match is on June 2, 2026, against Georgia at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in Tbilisi, starting at 20:00 local time (21:00 Romanian time). The second match is on June 6, 2026, at the Steaua Stadium in Bucharest against Wales, kicking off at 20:45.

Hagi announced that he plans to select three players per position, ensuring that the team includes experienced players, players in their prime, and highly talented players who can bring energy to the team. He explained, "We will have three players per position, so everyone who fits the criteria will be selected. I am new, and they need to get to know me. We will introduce our technical concept, vision, and philosophy to the players."

Antena 1 will broadcast the match where Hagi will lead the Romanian national team for the first time. Following the match against Georgia, the Romanian team will return for the second friendly match, which will be broadcast on Prima TV.

After these friendlies, Romania will begin its journey in the Nations League, with six matches scheduled. The team will face Bosnia, Poland, and Sweden in their group. All matches will be broadcast by Antena 1, which has exclusive broadcasting rights.

Hagi emphasized the importance of communication between himself, his staff, and the national team, stating, "We will have a monthly press conference to share what we have been working on and to get to know each other better and support the national team." He also noted that he has visited 17 matches in Romania and one abroad to assess players.
