Özbek’s Ambitious Vision for the Sarı-Kırmızılıs

Dursun Özbek has secured his fourth term as president of Galatasaray, winning re-election with 1,780 votes. His mandate extends for another two years, during which he aims to elevate the club both financially and competitively. The primary sporting objective is clear: extend the current Süper Lig dominance by securing a sixth consecutive championship. On the financial front, the board has set an aggressive target to increase annual revenue from the current €350 million to €500 million.

Özbek’s strategy also involves long-term infrastructure development, specifically the completion of the Aslantepe project, ensuring the club hands over a stronger financial foundation upon his eventual departure. However, the immediate focus remains on strengthening the squad for European competition, with the ultimate goal of progressing beyond the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

The End of the Bernardo Silva Dream

The initial high-profile midfield target was Bernardo Silva, who recently left Manchester City. Galatasaray management initiated talks, offering the Portuguese star a three-year contract worth €15 million per season. Silva reportedly consulted with former teammate İlkay Gündoğan to gauge the club’s environment before making a decision. However, the negotiations collapsed when Silva demanded a total package of €55 million. The Galatasaray board rejected the figure, adhering to a strict internal policy that free agents should not be paid above market value, especially when compared to contracted players.

New Midfield Targets: Uzun and Camavinga

With the Silva deal off the table, Galatasaray has shifted its attention to two promising midfielders. The first is Can Uzun, the 20-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt star. Head coach Okan Buruk has personally endorsed the signing. Uzun’s profile fits the club’s needs perfectly, offering youth, athleticism, and a market value of approximately €45 million. He delivered an impressive campaign last season, recording 10 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances. His signing would also be strategically advantageous under the new foreign player regulations in Turkish football.

The second ambitious target is Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid. The 23-year-old French international is reportedly linked with a potential exit from the Spanish giants. Galatasaray is monitoring the situation closely, with reports indicating that Bafétimbi Gomis may act as an intermediary. The estimated transfer fee for Camavinga is around €50 million. Both Uzun and Camavinga represent the dynamic, high-energy midfield profile that Buruk demands, aiming to inject fresh talent into a squad ready for a new era of European contention.
