Former World Champion Returns to Ice for Olympic Games
Former figure skating world champion Shoma Uno of Japan announced his return to the ice, following his early retirement, to compete in the upcoming Olympics as a dance pair with partner Marin Honda, AFP reported.
"Since the day we made this decision, our goal has been to compete in the Olympics and devote ourselves to the sport," the duo wrote on social media.
"Day by day, we have a strong resolve and set ourselves new challenges," added the Japanese pair.
Shoma Uno's Previous Achievements
At 28 years old, Uno won a silver medal individually at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang and a bronze four years later in Beijing. He was the world champion in 2022 and 2023 and announced his retirement from the sport in May 2024. Honda, 24, was a world champion for girls, also retiring prematurely from figure skating.
