Former Dynamo Zagreb player Slavko Ištvanić (59) will arrive at Maksimir stadium on Wednesday at 11 a.m., standing beside the monument of Bad Blue Boys and waiting for a club official to meet him to discuss a debt that dates back to the 1990s. In an interview with Večernji list, Ištvanić stated that this move is the culmination of long-term frustration and neglect from both past and present Dynamo administrations.
Traži 70.000 eura
Ištvanić is demanding 70,000 euros without interest, based on a legal ruling from 1997. He claims the debt relates to a contract he signed with Dynamo when the club was a citizens' association. The issue arose due to subsequent transformations of the club, with successive administrations rejecting his claims, arguing they are not legal successors.
"They have inherited all the trophies, history, and players; presumably they should also inherit what happened to me," Ištvanić told Večernji list, emphasizing he has all the documentation to support his claims. This is not the first time he has sought compensation from Dynamo. In the past, he threatened to go on a hunger strike to draw attention to the issue.
Ištvanić is in a difficult financial situation. Over the past years, he has raised funds for his son's cerebral palsy treatment. One such instance was a humanitarian match in 2019, which raised over 60,000 kuna.
Ištvanić, who played for Dynamo from 1983 to 1996 and amassed 527 appearances, also played for the Croatian national team. He served as the captain and played for three names of the club: Dinamo, HAŠK-Građanski, and Croatia. Despite being a club legend, his relationship with the club has been strained for years.
How can a club ignore one of its own legends like this? Is this the legacy we want for the great teams of the Balkans? Let's support our heroes!
