Eren Elmalı on Galatasaray's Ambitions: "Our Goal is to Lift a Major European Trophy"

Galatasaray footballer Eren Elmalı highlights the club's relentless pursuit of success, saying, "We are not satisfied. Even if we win the 27th championship, we will talk about the 28th championship the next day. I believe the greatest advantage of the club is its hunger for success."

Trendyol Süper Lig's 2025-2026 season was crowned by Galatasaray, and national team player Eren Elmalı spoke to İhlas Haber Ajansı (İHA) about the season's achievements.

Elmalı, who acknowledged the club's occasional setbacks during the season, emphasized their ultimate victory and the setting of new goals. "We are happy, and as I said before, we set new goals immediately. Our only thought right now is to win the 27th championship. We aim for 27 within ourselves. Hopefully, it continues this way. Our name is actually written in history. This is a perfect feeling for us. Perhaps it will be remembered by our children and grandchildren years later. We previously won the championship four consecutive years. We want to repeat this record and win five consecutive championships."

"We were very happy to hear the final whistle," Elmalı continued. "We wanted to win the championship in the first Samsun match but it didn't happen. In Antalya, especially in the final minutes, we were very excited because the score was not as we wanted. We knew and felt that we would be champions. We were very happy when we heard the final whistle. We are accustomed to winning the championship every year. We share this feeling with our families and friends, and it is a very beautiful feeling for us."

"My first championship was much more important for me," Elmalı added. "I had no league championship before. I was more accustomed to the second one. The first one was much more important for me. This championship is also important because it is our fourth consecutive championship."

Emphasizing the club's hunger for success, Elmalı stated, "The club's structure, the players' mindset, and the players who come here are all geared towards success. As players, we are all hungry for success. We are not satisfied. Even if we win the 27th championship, we will talk about the 28th championship the next day. I believe the greatest advantage of the club is this hunger for success and the fact that we never settle. This has always been part of the club's history. I think this will continue for many years."

Elmalı also commented on their performance in the UEFA Champions League. "The opponents we played were very tough. We played Liverpool three times this season. I think the Champions League went well for us. We reached the last 16 last season, and we want to reach the quarterfinals this year. The further we advance from last year, the better it is. Slowly but surely, you raise the bar. If you play in the Champions League, you need to be a very good team. As a club, you need to be successful, and as players, you need to give something. As Turkish football, we are taking steps.
