Captain Zoran Kankaraš, a pilot for Er Serbia, retired last week on May 10 after a 40-year career. His final landing from London to Belgrade was captured on video and marked with special greetings from colleagues and air traffic controllers.
Zoran's colleagues ensured that his last landing as the leader of Er Serbia aircraft at Belgrade Airport was recorded. The footage was captured by the YouTube channel FlyingHigh Aviation.
After his last flight for Er Serbia, Captain Kankaraš was spontaneously greeted by air traffic controllers from SMATSA on the Belgrade tower and other Er Serbia pilots who were nearby and on the tower frequency at the time.
Kankaraš began his pilot career at Jat Airways as a co-pilot on a DC-9 passenger aircraft. After his first captaincy on this aircraft and its removal from the fleet, he transitioned to the ATR. During the sanctions of the 1990s, he flew for Jat Airways to Afghanistan, Nigeria, and India. After returning to Jat, which became Er Serbia, he transitioned to the Erbas A320, flying for airlines in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. He spent the last two years flying for Er Serbia.
Kankaraš spent over 30,000 hours in the air throughout his career. His retirement follows regulations that prohibit pilots over 65 from flying commercially, even if they are young, healthy, and capable.
