Novak Djokovic has recently hired his longtime friend, Viktor Troicki, as his new main coach. According to Sport klub, Troicki has already been seen training with Djokovic for Roland Garros, where Djokovic also trained with Alexander Zverev. Troicki served as Djokovic's coach during the 2024 Olympic Games, where Djokovic secured a historic gold medal.
The details of the agreement are still unknown, but Troicki has previously trained Miomir Kecmanović, who recently won the Challenger in Valencia and returned to the top 50 in the world rankings. Kecmanović will now be coached by Ognjen Jovanović, leaving it uncertain if Kecmanović will seek another solution. Troicki has been Kecmanović's coach since the beginning of 2025, and before that, he coached Hamad Medjedovic for almost two seasons. Troicki has been Serbia's Davis Cup selector since 2021.
Viktor Troicki as Coach
Djokovic and Troicki, who are only a year apart in age, have been close friends since childhood and have overcome numerous professional hurdles together. They famously brought Serbia victory in the final doubles match against Spain at the 2020 ATP Cup.
As a player, Troicki reached 12th in the world rankings, winning three ATP titles. He came close to reaching the quarterfinals at Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the round of 16 five times and narrowly losing matches against Andy Murray in Paris in 2011 and Vasek Pospisil at Wimbledon in 2015 after leading 2-0 in sets.
This move by Djokovic and Troicki could be a game-changer, but will it last? Djokovic has had multiple coaches in the past, so can we expect a stable partnership this time? Only time will tell!
