Novak Djokovic has finally opened up about one of the most significant decisions of his recent career: the hiring of Viktor Troicki as his new coach. Following a hard-fought victory over Michael Perger at Roland Garros, the Serbian star addressed questions regarding the swift end of his previous collaboration and the immediate integration of Troicki into his camp.

During a press conference that drew attention for its candid nature, Djokovic was asked to comment on the reaction of Misa Kecmanović, who appeared shocked by the sudden change. While Djokovic acknowledged communicating with Kecmanović about his own recent successes, he drew a clear line regarding the internal dynamics of his coaching staff.

"I communicated with him, but we haven't met in person," Djokovic said. "I congratulated him on his tournament and Challenger wins. I shared my perspective on what happened, but how he accepted it and what transpired between him and Viktor is not my place to intervene. That is all I can say."

Why Troicki?

The core of Djokovic's explanation for choosing Troicki lies in a simple principle: familiarity. The two men share a bond that stretches back decades, a connection that Djokovic believes is essential at this stage of his career.

"I think the reasons are very simple. He is someone who has known me since I was eight or nine years old. He is a friend," Djokovic explained. "We know each other from the court—I have played against him, played doubles with him, and we have won the Davis Cup together. He was the coach who won the gold medal with us at the Olympics here. We have spent years together on tour."

Djokovic emphasized that Troicki is one of the closest people in his life. The decision was not just tactical but personal. The world number one stated clearly that he no longer has the patience to bring in strangers to his inner circle. He wanted a coach who already understands him deeply and could contribute positively through shared experience rather than trial and error.
