The Nijmegen-based NEC football team had a fantastic season, finishing third in the Dutch league and achieving a historic success. One of the main driving forces behind the team's success was Croatian defender Darko Nejašmić. He had an outstanding season, scoring four goals, including memorable victories against Ajax and Utrecht in February.

NEC secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers with their third-place finish, outperforming Ajax, Twente, Utrecht, AZ, and other major Dutch clubs. The team ended the season with 77 goals, making them the second most effective team in the Dutch league, led by coach Dick Schreuder. Throughout the season, NEC played with courage, resilience, and their efforts were rewarded at the end.

Nejašmić was also part of the team of the month in February. Former player for Hajduk and Osijek, Nejašmić was a regular starter this season. NEC confirmed their third-place finish with a 2-1 victory over Go Ahead Eagles in the final round. Now, they are preparing for new European challenges in the upcoming season.
