Daniel Pancu, the coach of CFR Cluj, is expressing dissatisfaction over the club's decision to part ways with two key players. Recent rumors suggest that Pancu may sign with Rapid, following the departure of Costel Gâlcă. Although Pancu's contract with CFR Cluj was automatically extended after the team qualified for the Conference League preliminaries, he remains unhappy with Nelu Varga's failure to meet his demands.
CFR Cluj was in a dire situation when Pancu arrived, but he managed to revive the team, leading them to third place. However, disputes have been brewing between Pancu and Varga for several weeks.
Varga has been irritated by the possibility of Pancu's departure and has criticized the coach harshly. Pancu, 48, revealed that he has imposed certain conditions to continue at CFR Cluj, but it seems that Varga is overlooking them, allowing two key players to leave at the end of the season.
“Players are leaving. The team is looking very good right now. Of course, they will leave. One has already left. The other will leave after this game (against FC Argeș). Both are starters, leaving freely. I have talked twice with Marian Copilu. He told me to stay, but I also tell him that I have the right to go to a place where I have conditions. Already, two players are leaving. What conditions should I make?” said Daniel Pancu in an interview with Digi Sport.
Varga reacted poorly when he heard that Pancu might have reached an agreement with Rapid. “He guaranteed me 200 times that he would not leave, that he wanted to stay. I was upset after his last statement. If that's the case, rest assured that we have seven coaches in line, we are not chasing after you. You are a fool! After giving you power and conditions, you say you want to do who-knows-what... With these conditions, championships were won, not with others,” Varga told Monitorul de Cluj.
Shortly after, Varga publicly apologized to Pancu and announced that he would be willing to meet Pancu's demands to continue at CFR Cluj. “I am very satisfied from this point of view and I ask for public forgiveness. Due to the speculation that was happening through the press, and being away from the club, I was only receiving messages through the press. I was not updated with all the information, and for that reason, I want to apologize to Daniel, because I know what I talked about with him, and he promised me something. And I am trying to keep my word regarding what I promised him,” Varga told DigiSport.
