Elias Charalambous' Future Post-FCSB Refusal

Bucharest’s FCSB faces a tense end to the season as they play for a chance at European qualification. Gigi Becali’s team will be on the pitch Sunday, no earlier than 20:30, for the Semifinal qualifier for the Conference League against FC Botoșani at Ghencea Stadium. If they can overcome the Moldovans, they will face Dinamo in the final for the last European spot.

Elias Charalambous, who recently parted ways with FCSB, has refused the club’s offer to return to the technical bench. He was seen in his homeland, Cyprus, participating in an event for young footballers. Charalambous spoke about the development of Cypriot football and the direction the training system needs to go in.

"There is much talent in Cyprus and I hope to see it competing in higher categories and for the national team. We must improve the mentality in Cyprus. We coaches and the most experienced in the football field must guide this talent. We have raised the level of coaching in the past years and the school has contributed to this. I hope to see more Cypriots coaching in the top division in the coming years," Elias Charalambous shared with publication Kerkida.

Becali Goes with Baciu for Season's End

After Charalambous' refusal, FCSB turned to an emergency option for the season's end: Marius Baciu. Baciu, however, has a CV that raises questions. He has not had consistent experience at top clubs but has managed short mandates at lower league teams or those in survival battles.

Baciu has coached teams like Voința Sibiu, Unirea Alba Iulia, SC Bacău, Academica Clinceni, Concordia Chiajna, and Juventus București (now Daco-Getica), managing to secure promotions or avoid relegation in some cases.

He has also worked at Turris Turnu Măgurele, with a short but intense mandate, and later had experiences in the Gulf at Saudi Arabian and Omani clubs like Al-Taqadom, Al-Alabi, and Al-Nahdah.

Baciu Holds UEFA PRO License from 2015

Baciu's last significant engagement was as a sports director at Păușești Otăsău, a team in Liga 3, Seria 6. Baciu holds a UEFA PRO license from 2015 and was a classmate with other former Romanian champions' coaches like Bogdan Andone, Vergil Andronache, and Toni Petre. His cohort also includes names like Erik Linkar, <Constantin Schumacher, Florin Motroc, Eugen Trică, and Flavius Stoican.
