Aurel Ticleanu, a former player of Craiova Maxima, has faced intense backlash from Universitatea Craiova fans following his controversial remarks about the club's identity. The North Stand of the Dinamo Stadium targeted both Atanas Trica and Ticleanu during the match between Universitatea Craiova and U Cluj.

Ticleanu's recent statement that he would consider any title won by the Universitatea Craiova team since 2013 as the club's first has sparked vehement criticism from the Oltenian supporters. This was especially evident during the first half of the match that decided the new Romanian champion.

The banner directed at Ticleanu reads: “In my madness, like a confused dog, I have gnawed at the historical sports club that raised me.”

Ticleanu does not recognize either of the two entities in Craiova, those of Adrian Mititelu and Mihai Rotaru, as the legitimate continuation of Craiova Maxima. He expressed concern over the division within the city, stating that it is not good for Craiova to be divided.

In 2013, Universitatea Craiova, backed by Mihai Rotaru, was formed through an agreement with the Craiova City Hall. The team moved up to the first league the following year. Initially, the team claimed the historical achievements of Craiova Maxima, but the Timisoara Appeals Court ruled in favor of FCU Craiova, led by Adrian Mititelu, which now holds the historical records of the club from 1948 to 1991.

Aurel Ticleanu played for Universitatea Craiova from 1976 to 1985, appearing in 232 matches and scoring 10 goals. He won two league titles and four Romanian Cups with the team. In 1983, he led the team to the UEFA Cup semifinals, achieving an historic double with Benfica. He also made 42 appearances for the Romanian national team.
