Mirko Filipović, the Croatian MMA and kickboxing legend, shared an unusual encounter with the Yakuza in a recent interview on the FNC show Face Off. Known as Cro Cop, Filipović discussed his career, life in retirement, and his continued training after suffering a stroke. He also spoke about the possibility of returning to the ring, his favorite fights, and his fascination with Japan.
"The Limousine Arrived for Me"
Filipović detailed an encounter that took place after a fight against Alexander Emelianenko. "My manager called me and said I had to attend a dinner," he recalled. "The limousine arrived for me, and I remember it was an exclusive restaurant. There were about three or four men in suits with earring holes in their ears. There were roughly 15 people there, and the youngest was around 65 years old. They placed a map of Croatia on the wall and knew some things about our country. It was a legendary dinner."
"My Manager Just Told Me Not to Ask"
Filipović described the lavish meal and his own reaction. "There was everything to eat, but my stomach was turning, so I just ate ice cream," he said. "Later, I asked my manager who these people were, and he just told me, 'don't ask.' I recently asked him again, and he said, 'they're from the Y.'" The mysterious encounter with the notorious Japanese criminal group adds another intriguing chapter to Cro Cop's storied career.
This encounter with the Yakuza is straight out of a movie! I can't help but wonder how many other mysterious tales Cro Cop has buried in that storied career. What other secrets does he hold?
