Cologne's coach René Wagner has signed a new contract extending his tenure until 2028, the Bundesliga club announced on Friday. Wagner took over the position from Lucas Kwasnick in March with a contract until the end of the season. Despite winning only six points from seven matches, his leadership helped Cologne avoid relegation, finishing 14th in the league, three points above the relegation zone.
Club's Praise for Wagner
"René fits us very well because he not only understands the values of our club but also embodies them. He has shown that he can guide the team through tough times and unite people towards a common goal. We see a chance to build something together and develop as a result of this. We are convinced that René is the right coach for the path we are on," said club director Thomas Kessler.
"I am very happy with the decision and the trust of the management. This is something truly special for me," Wagner stated categorically.
