The Captain’s Sacrifice

Cătălin Cîrjan has endured another grueling campaign. The 23-year-old Dinamo București captain logged 44 appearances, chipping in with 8 goals and 6 assists, yet the heartbreak of the Conference League playoff loss to FCSB still lingers. But his resilience is about to be tested off the pitch. After representing Romania against Georgia and Wales, Cîrjan heads straight to the operating room.

Two Procedures, One Goal

The midfielder has battled chronic hypertrophic rhinitis, forcing reliance on nasal drops just to breathe normally. The inflammation sapped his energy, disrupted his sleep, and left him gasping for air during matches. On June 8, he undergoes surgery to correct the nasal obstruction. But that is only the first step. The very next day, Cîrjan returns for a second procedure to address fluid buildup and pain in both knees, injuries sustained after a collision during training.

The Road to Recovery

Recovery will not be immediate. Nasal surgery typically demands a two-day pause from all physical exertion, with intense activity off-limits for three to six weeks. Combined with the knee intervention, this means a significant layoff. Coach Zeljko Kopic has granted Cîrjan additional leave to ensure he heals properly before rejoining the squad. For a player who refused to miss a minute earlier this season, this forced pause is a necessary evil for a longer, stronger future.
