Costel Pană, the former coach of Chindia Târgoviște last season, believes that the team has a psychological edge in their upcoming playoff series against Farul Constanța. Pană, who previously saved Chindia from relegation last season, sees the current squad as having nothing to lose, while Farul risks a year of hard work if they do not advance.
Chindia's Favorable Position
Last season, Pană managed to keep Chindia in Liga I by guiding them through a tense playoff with CSC Dumbrăvița (1-0 and 3-2). Now, with the playoffs against Farul set for May 23 and May 31, he sees Chindia as having a good chance of advancing.
“I'm eagerly awaiting the first game,” Pană commented. “Last year, I started a difficult job in February, but we had the satisfaction of saving the team from relegation with the leadership and players. What happened afterward was no longer personal to me. I judged my time at the federation with the current leadership, and I received everything we agreed upon in the termination contract. Now, regarding the possibility of Chindia advancing, I believe they have a first chance.”
The Playoff Series
The first leg of the playoff will take place on Saturday, May 23, at 17:30 in Târgoviște, while the return match is set for Sunday, May 31, at 20:30 in Constanța.
Pană notes that Chindia's chances are strengthened by their lack of pressure, while Farul risks losing a year of hard work. “They have a first chance because they have nothing to lose. On the other hand, if Farul makes a mistake, they lose a year of work,” Pană explained.
Several players from last year's squad remain, including Contra, Florea, Hanciu, Martac, Petre, Roșu, and others. Pană believes that the first game will be crucial, as a non-loss by Chindia will improve their chances in the second match.
“There isn't a big difference between the last four teams in Liga I and the top teams in Liga II. We've seen results in recent years, and that's why I believe Chindia has an additional chance,” he concluded.
Criticism of Licensing Criteria
Pană also expressed concerns about the lack of transparency in the Romanian Football Federation's decision-making process and the licensing criteria. He noted that some teams are accepted without the right to promotion, while others with the necessary qualifications are denied.
“It's not clear why some teams with significant debts are granted licenses, while others with all the necessary requirements are not. This needs to be more transparent, so everyone can see and understand the criteria,” Pană stated.
imi pare că Chindia are cea mai bună şansă în acest playoff. sper că vor putea să-și mențină performanța. imo, primul meci va fi crucial. #vădunăș
