CFR Cluj, one of the teams with aspirations in Romania's Superliga, is preparing to enter a new era following a tumultuous season. Despite not winning the league or the Romanian Cup, the team managed to secure a third-place finish under the leadership of Neluțu Varga. This position ensures direct entry into the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.

The team, prepared by Daniel Pancu, achieved an impressive feat, considering the doubts about its playoff chances at the start of the season. Now, Varga is setting the stage for next season, announcing ambitious goals.

There are strong indications that CFR Cluj will have a new investor next season. Specifically, Varga is ready to sell 39% of his shares to Swiss partners. This move will help the businessman alleviate financial pressures the Gruia-based team has faced in recent years.

CFR Cluj Enters a New Era

“After wrapping up my business in Africa next week, I’ll have an answer. However, this doesn’t mean I’m selling the club. It means I’ll transfer part of my shares to my Swiss partners, thereby clearing the club of all debts. No more stress over delayed salaries. At our club, salaries have always been paid, and they were among the highest. Failing to meet this standard recently has been emotionally taxing. I want to pay on time, to the minute. But there are challenges.

I’ve decided on a 39% share transfer. I’ll retain 39%, and the rest will remain with the other partners. I’ve always invested in the club. In the future, if I bring in Swiss partners, it will ensure an annual budget, set at the start of the year. We’ll put the money in the account and manage the club from there,” Varga said, according to Fanatik.ro.

If the transfer goes through, the Swiss partners will inject approximately 40 million euros into the club. This will be used to clear all debts, starting a new era for CFR Cluj.

The current third-place finish with 42 points and six consecutive wins means that the final match against FC Argeș won’t affect the final standings. Universitatea Craiova will head to the Champions League, U Cluj will compete in the Europa League qualifiers, and Dinamo, in fourth place, will face a play-off team (FCSB or FC Botoșani) in the Conference League qualifiers.
