Bulgarian Swimmers Dominate International Meet in Burgas
Bulgarian swimmers Peter Micin and Gabriela Georgieva clinched the men's and women's overall titles at the International Swimming Grand Prix "Mayor's Cup 2026" in Burgas. Micin won with a total score of 2491 points, followed by Darren Kirilov (Dorostol) and Constantin Malachi (Moldova). On the final day of the tournament, Micin, a member of the club Vihren, won the 200-meter freestyle race in 1:47.73 minutes.
Georgieva claimed the women's title with 2334 points, followed by Diana Petkova (Sprint Sofia) and Emanuela Leu (Moldova). In her last event, Georgieva placed second in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 29.64 seconds. She was beaten by Leu, who was 0.10 seconds faster. In the same discipline, Sianna Mitova set a new record for junior girls with a time of 30.85 seconds, finishing third in the final.
On the third day of the tournament at "Park Arena OZK," Bulgarian swimmers won six events. On the 50-meter freestyle, success went to Nikola Zdravkov from the club Asteri with a time of 23.00 seconds. Diana Petkova was the fastest in the 100-meter breaststroke with a result of 1:10.45 minutes. Valentin Filipov (Asteri) won the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 25.89 seconds. Simona Ivanova (Olymp) claimed the gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:06.21 minutes, and Viktor Hristov was first in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 24.49 seconds.
In the overall ranking for "Mayor's Cup," the success went to the Moldova team with 47,346 points, followed by representatives of VSI and Breeze. The Moldovans secured the top position in the men's individual ranking, while the VSI team triumphed in the women's category.
