Bulgarian Boxers Advance to Quarterfinals in Belgrade
Bulgarian boxers Zlatislava Chukanova and Viktorio Ilyev have advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious international tournament "Belgrade Champion." The national athletes secured convincing victories on the first day of the competition in Serbia and are now on the path to securing medals in the championship.
In the women's 51 kg category, Zlati Chukanova did not leave any chance to Ukrainian boxer Taissia Pokusay. The recent two-time winner of the "Strandja Cup" defeated her opponent with a unanimous decision. On Friday, she will face the host representative, Nikolina Djida, for a place in the semifinals and a minimum bronze medal.
Viktorio Ilyev also achieved success in the men's 65 kg category. He convincingly defeated Armenian boxer Arghishti Hakobyan. His victory was also decisive. The Bulgarian national will have to face Yagit Us (Turkey) on Saturday to reach the semifinals.
Ergyunal Sebahat suffered a defeat. The captain of the national men's team lost to the leading Turkish boxer Samet Salah in the 50 kg category with a non-unanimous decision.
On Friday, there will be two more matches involving Bulgarian participants. Stelian Strahilov (75 kg) will face Ukrainian boxer Vladislav Chynuk, while Semion Boldirev (90 kg) will box against Bryan Coulvel (Canada) or Bogdan Tolmachov (Ukraine).
Zlati Chukanova and Viktorio Ilyev have been shining in Belgrade, but how will they handle the pressure of the home crowd? It's not just about skill, but also mental fortitude. Will they rise to the occasion or buckle under the pressure?
