Women’s national volleyball team of Bulgaria held its traditional open training session in front of the media. The event took place at the Levski Sofia Sports Hall, where team and staff were joined by Federation President Lubomir Ganev and coordinator of national teams, Nikolai Ivanov. The goal set for this young team, led by selector Marcello Abondanza, is to qualify for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane. Ganev emphasized his belief in the team's potential to achieve this goal.

“As a team, you have enough time to work together to qualify for the biggest sports forum. Create strong bonds among yourselves, help each other, and grow together. As a federation, we will always strive to provide the best conditions for you,” Ganev stated.

To achieve their long-term goals, it was decided that European and world champions Kalina Veneva and Darina Nanova would be part of the women's national team exclusively. After analysis, it was concluded that their developed qualities and development up to this point already meet the requirements and level of the women's national team. The goal is for Veneva and Nanova to continue their growth in an environment with high standards and constant pressure to reach the highest level of international volleyball.

Selector Marcello Abondanza noted that working with a group of young players with great potential is both a pleasure and a responsibility, as the process requires a serious dose of patience. “There needs to be the necessary patience with this team. The situation is nothing like it was 13 years ago when I was a coach here, because then Bulgaria had more players with international experience. I will work on the development of the team and have a strong desire to maintain our position among the world's elite in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL),” Abondanza commented.

The women's national team will have three control matches against Sweden in the Hristo Botev Hall on May 22, 23, and 24. The first two matches will have a training character, while the third will be open to the public and broadcast live on Max Sport 1. The new captain of the women’s national team will be libero Zhana Todorova, who inherits the captain’s armband from Christina Vuchkova, who wore it during the 2025 World Championship.
