Bulgaria's Eurovision Triumph Echoes in Romanian Media
Bulgaria's historic first win at Eurovision with Darina's "Bangaranga" is the leading story in Romanian media today. Headlines like "Bulgaria wins Eurovision for the first time," "Darina and Bangaranga conquered Europe," and "Eurovision ends with a historical victory for Bulgaria" are just a few examples. The impact of the song is so significant that in one of the largest shopping centers in the city, located on Liviu Rebreanu Street, "Bangaranga" is being played. This center is frequented by both Bulgarians and Romanians.
The massive interest from our northern neighbors in Darina's performance can be attributed to the fact that one of the song's composers is Romanian. He is the producer and composer Christian Tarcha, known to the public as Monoir. Born in Constanta, he began learning music at the age of five and is now a well-known figure in the Southeast European music industry.
Before the final, Monoir sent a supportive message to both Bulgaria and Romania, and following Darina's win, he posted an emotional statement. "I've known you since you were 16. I knew there was something special about you, and now you've proven it to the entire world. I'm proud of all of us! Congratulations to the whole team," he shared.
Part of the time before Eurovision, Darina spent in Romania, where she visited the Bulgarian embassy in Bucharest and met with representatives of the Bulgarian community across the Danube. There, she taught some children from the Bulgarian Sunday School "Jordan Jovkov" in the Romanian capital the basic dance moves for her Eurovision song. Darina also participated in a pre-Eurovision party in Bucharest, which included other performers from this year's and previous editions of the competition.
This is a monumental moment for Bulgarian music and Eurovision, and Darina's win has clearly struck a chord with our neighbors. How do you think this victory will impact future Eurovision entries from the region? Will it inspire more collaboration and cross-border talent? Let's hope so!
